Befriending Kent Consortium

The launch event, funded by Awards for all, of the Befriending Kent Consortium took place at the Hilton Hotel Maidstone on Wednesday 7th of June.

The consortium is a joint venture between ourselves (Swale CVS), Ashford Volunteer Centre, Shepway Volunteer Centre, North West Kent Volunteer Centre, CARM and Good Neighbour Project Tunbridge Wells, with our purpose to provide uniform befriending services across Kent.

The event was attended by over 60 people with the audience including KCC commissioners, representatives from CCGs across Kent, health professionals, local authority workers, various voluntary organisations and volunteer befrienders from all the member organisations.

Jonathan Trumper, from the Good Neighbour Project provided an overview of the services being offered and our guest speaker, John Carlin from NCVO, provided detailed information on the national befriending accreditation with the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation of which all the consortium members are achievers or working towards. A lively question and answer session followed at the end and it was great to see so many people interested in the services being provided.

The consortium provides one to one befriending, telephone befriending and various group befriending services across Kent and will be looking to develop services further in the future.
