Task Force provides a gardening service for elderly or disabled Shepway residents.
This service is for people who can no longer look after or maintain their gardens. Task Force consists of volunteers who themselves need some support because of learning difficulties or mental ill health. They work in teams under the supervision of the Co-ordinator.
The Volunteer Centre has a van used for Task Force as well as Outreach activities, and it provides transport for the volunteers and the equipment used, as many clients do not have their own.
Since the service began in 2004, it has grown steadily with over 400 visits a year being made to more than 150 clients
Information for clients
Clients are usually referred to us by other agencies such as, Social Services or Age Concern although many now have learned about us through friends.
The demand is such that there is now a waiting list. Gardening is very basic; grass cutting, hedge trimming, pruning, weeding borders and edges, small fence repairs and general tidying.
The project does not supply a regular maintenance service but clients who require follow up visits are accommodated wherever possible.
There is a small hourly charge (currently £10.00) to help cover running costs, and donations are always very much appreciated.
If you are interested in finding out more please phone 01303 259 007 and leave a message. The Coordinator will call you back.
